WORK
HISTORY
8/06- present LSU SPORTS INFORMATION

I am currently working for LSU Sports Information as a Student Intern. Sports Information is the public relations department for LSU athletics. As a student intern, my responsibilities include managing workspaces in the office, editing information for media guides, assisting in gameday operations for football, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis and softball, and writing feature stories for the official Web site of LSU athletics, LSUsports.net, among other things. Working for Sports Information has developed my ability and skill in the field of Public Relations.

5/06 - 8/06 KLSU RADIO SPORTS REPORTER

I was a sports reporter for 91.1 KLSU-FM during the summer before I began the job at LSU Sports Information. Duties included researching latest sports news, writing brief synopses of the big events and reporting on air at designated times. I was also a member of the weekly sports show, Out of Bounds where I presented facts and my opinions on various sports topics. I gained valuabe experience behind a microphone and learning how to operate in radio studio.

3/04 – 5/06 CHRISTIAN LIFE ACADEMY SPORTS PUBLIC ADDRESS ANNOUNCER

For two seasons, I was the “Voice of the Christian Life Crusaders” for football and men’s and women’s basketball. I began announcing baseball games during my senior year at Christian Life, so I announced baseball for three seasons. I also was in charge of setting up the sound equipment and running the music before and during the basketball and baseball games.

6/05 – 9/05 VECTOR MARKETING CORPORATION

I began as a Sales Representative and sold over $4000 of Cutco Cutlery. I earned the title of Advanced Sales Representative before leaving to focus on school. Working at Vector allowed me to interact with many people and gave me invaluable experience in interpersonal communications.

My job at LSU Sports Information

Working for LSU sports info has been quite entertaining. I very much enjoy working in the field of sports, so this job as a student intern is fun as well as challenging. Although I do not "have a sport" which means I am not the head public relations contact for any particular sport since I am a first-year student intern, my job is still a blast. Part of my job is to work the different home sporting events at LSU, ranging from soccer and football in the fall to tennis and basketball in the spring. Every day in the office is a great experience because I get to see first hand what goes on in a public relations office. The sports info office works with the media by issuing press releases, mailing out media credentials or simply answering questions about each sport. Although I enjoy most aspects of working at the office, one of the greatest benefits is writing feature stories for the official Web site, LSUsports.net. It is an excellent opportunity to get my name out there.

However, it is up to the reader to judge whether or not my name SHOULD be out there. The first story I ever wrote for LSUsports.net was an article about a walk-on football player, Leo Desselle. One neat experience I was fortunate enough to have was the opportunity to write a feature story on LSU's gymnastics coach D-D Breaux, who recently won her 500th career meet at LSU. All in all I must say that working for LSU sports information has continued to be a wonderful experience for me, and I am excited about my future in that department.
